Who we are

Children's Learning Garden, Home Licensing Agency, also known as CLG Home Licensing Agency, is a not-for-profit organization licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Education as a home child care agency. CRA Business Number 78212 3814 RC0001.

We don't run centres. We find, screen and train providers who care for small groups of children in their own homes, and we support both the providers and the families through the year. We serve Peel Region and Niagara Region from one office in Mississauga. As a not-for-profit, any surplus goes back into the program.

The Islamic approach

Children in CLG homes learn short surahs and duas, the manners of eating, greeting and sharing, in the same days they learn to stack blocks, share a toy and tell a story. The program follows Ontario's early years framework, How Does Learning Happen?, with its four foundations of belonging, well-being, engagement and expression.

Find care for your child

Licensed home child care means your child is in a real home, in a group of up to six, with a provider the agency has screened and trained and the Ministry of Education inspects.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need. Your child's age, your area, the days and hours you need, and when you'd like to start.
  2. We find a match. We look at homes near you with a space for your child's age. If there isn't one yet, we tell you and keep your request on file.
  3. You visit the home. You meet the provider, see the play space, and ask anything. You decide.
  4. Your child starts. You sign the enrolment forms, set up the Lillio app for daily notes and photos, and agree a settling-in plan.

Each home sets its own hours, usually between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. We match you to a home whose hours fit yours. We don't publish providers' addresses; when we have a match we tell you the neighbourhood, and you see the home on your visit.

What we check

  • Interviews, references and a home visit before a provider is approved
  • A vulnerable-sector police check and a medical for the provider and every adult living in the home
  • First aid and CPR-C certification
  • The home set up and inspected against the Ministry's licensing requirements
  • Initial training, then ongoing training through the year
  • Regular visits from a CLG home visitor, and a yearly inspection by the Ministry of Education

Fees and subsidy

CLG is part of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system, so the fees families pay are capped by the province. Fees are billed monthly through the Lillio app.

If your family income is below the threshold, your Region may pay part or all of the fee. You apply to the Region, not to CLG, and CLG homes accept subsidy in both Regions.

Call the office for the current daily fee for your child's age.

Become a home child care provider

Care for up to six children in your own home, teach them the deen as they grow, and earn an income, with CLG handling the licence, the training and the families.

Who can apply

  • A mother who wants to work from home and is at ease with young children
  • A home with a room you can give over to child care during the day. Call us to check your area.
  • Willing to take a vulnerable-sector police check and a medical, as will every adult living in your home
  • Holding, or willing to get, Standard First Aid with CPR-C

A diploma is not required. What we look for is how you are with children, how you keep your home, and how you talk with parents.

What CLG provides

  • Help setting up your space: what the Ministry requires, where things go, what to buy
  • Initial training before your first child arrives, and ongoing training through the year
  • A home visitor who visits regularly and is a phone call away
  • Families matched to your home, so you don't advertise
  • Monthly payment from CLG, including for subsidized families

The steps

  1. Enquire. Email or call us and we'll call you back for a short conversation.
  2. Interview and home visit. We meet you, see the space, and talk through what the licence requires.
  3. Checks and training. Police checks, medicals, first aid, and CLG's initial training.
  4. Set up and inspection. You set up the space with our guidance; CLG inspects it against the Ministry's requirements.
  5. Your first children. We match families to your home. Setting up usually takes about a month from your interview.
